Well, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headquartered in Geneva, is one of the well-known agencies associated with 193 member states. It doesn’t grant patent rights to the applicant, which is the main responsibility of regional or national patent offices. Meanwhile, its committee members make active participation in debating, discussing, and also deciding the diverse issues that have a direct relation with the development of laws related to patents to match the evolving needs of society.

The main roles and responsibilities of WIPO are to develop a highly effective and strong international intellectual property system and to maintain a great balance. As mentioned, the organization has several member states that are responsible for collaborating in different fields that include the agreement of the treaty and also the convention that tends to underpin the intellectual property system.

WIPO offers different types of Intellectual Property services such as complement services, international patent protection with the help of the PCT system at both regional and national levels. So, as already mentioned, WIPO isn't involved in the process of granting the patent right.

Another role of WIPO is to organize a biennial conference for the main purpose of getting the idea of the programs and budget of the organizations. Nearly 170 of those of various nongovernmental organizations maintain their status as observers. The organization is mainly responsible for promoting protection of both industrial and copyright. Copyright materials include musical, artistic work, literary, photographic, and many more. Industrial property, on the other hand, includes designs, trademarks, inventions, and much more.
